What is electromagnetic induction?
Electric induction is the occurrence of induced current in a closed circuit when the magnetic flux through this circuit changes. The electromotive force that produces the induced current is the induced emf. There are three laws related to the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction: the fundamental law of electromagnetic induction, Faraday’s law, and Lenz’s law.
- Basic law of electromagnetic induction: If a closed circuit causes a magnetic change through the boundary surface, the induced electromotive force appears in the circuit.
- Lenz’s Law: An induced current is of such magnitude that the magnetic field opposes its cause.
- Faraday’s law: The induced emf is the electromotive force that generates the induced current in a closed circuit; it is proportional to the magnetic variation through the circuit and inversely proportional to the time of that change (i.e., it is proportional to the rate of change of flux).
What is the application of electromagnetic induction?
Electromagnetic induction is beneficial, so it has many applications in life, etc. Electromagnetism has brought about a great revolution in the field of engineering applications. Not only that, but it also greatly impacts other fields such as healthcare, industry, and space… You can refer to the following:
Applications in home appliances
Electromagnetism is the basic operating principle of many household appliances, such as lights, kitchen appliances, air conditioners, etc.
Induction cooker
An induction hob consists of a copper coil placed under an insulating material (usually a ceramic or glass cooktop) and an alternating current flowing through the copper coil. It uses DC induction to heat the cookware. At this point, the temperature can rise very quickly to heat the pot and the food in it.
Fluorescent
The most common electromagnetic induction lighting system is the fluorescent lighting system. The working mechanism of the fluorescent lamp is that the ballast is used based on the electromagnetic principle. When you turn on the light, it creates a high voltage at the ends of the lamp. When current flows through the bulb, it forms ions that act on the fluorescent powder to make the bulb glow.
Electric fan
Electrical devices using electric motors, such as electric fans or cooling systems in general, work on the principle of electromagnetic induction. In any electrical device, the electric motor works on the principle of Lenz force due to the magnetic field generated by the electric current.
In addition, electromagnetic induction also has many applications in household appliances such as microwave ovens, blenders, ovens, doorbells, speakers, etc.

Industrial applications
Generator
Generators use mechanical energy to produce electricity. The center of the generator is the coil located in the magnetic field. The principle of operation of this device is that the coil rotates in a magnetic field at a constant speed to generate alternating current.
Instead of using the coil to rotate in a constant magnetic field, another way to use electromagnetic induction is to keep the coil stationary and rotate the permanent magnet (which provides the magnetic field and flux) around the coil.
Magnetic levitation train
This is the modern technology of transport systems applying electromagnetic induction phenomena. A magnetic train uses powerful electromagnets to increase train speed amazingly.
Magnetic levitation trains use the basic principle of magnets with electromagnetic suspension (EMS) and a dynamic suspension system (EDS). In EMS, electromagnets used on the hull will attract the rails. These magnets surround the guide rails, and the gravitational force between the guides and the magnets lifts the train. In EDS, the train is propelled by thrust in conductive guides through induced currents.
Medicine
Today, electromagnetic fields play an important role in medical devices such as hyperthermia treatments for cancer, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and implants.
