Soldering electronic components is not an easy job because it is a long process that requires careful preparation of the welding materials as well as the concentration and skill of the welder. With some of the soldering experiences shared in this article, it will help your soldering process for electronic components go more smoothly.
What is the purpose of soldering electronic components?
Electronic components are attached to each other by soldering on a circuit board. Soldering is the process of melting solder around a connection point to attach two or more electronic parts together. The soldier is a metal alloy that binds components tightly after they cool down.

Experience in soldering electronic components
The quality and appearance of the solder joints are factors that determine the value of electronic components. You can refer to the following notes from skilled welders’ experience soldering electronic components:
Pay attention to how to choose a soldering iron
Welding machines and soldering irons are factors that directly affect the quality of a solder joint in electronic components. Not only do workers need to master professional skills, but they also need to equip themselves with a quality assurance device in the midst of a market overflowing with fake and poor-quality goods. To do that, you need to learn carefully about the ingredients that make up the quality of a machine and the establishment that specializes in providing reputable products with a clear origin.
Normally, short-circuit welding machines and a Maiso wire heating torch are equipped in the welders kit. In particular, a short-circuit soldering iron, also known as a pulse soldering iron, is used to weld common components with large legs and plugs. And Maiso wire heating soldering iron is used in welding field transistors, digital ICs, and ICs with small pins. If you want the work process to be faster and more convenient, you can equip yourself with both types of welding machines.
Choose the right solder tin
In the current market, there are two main types of solder:
- Leaded tin: having a ratio of 63% tin and 37% lead, or 60% tin and 40% lead, this type is mainly used for low prices and good quality but is toxic. Because of the need to comply with the RoHS standard in the industry, not many companies use it anymore.
- Lead-free tin: the composition includes tin, copper, and silver; the price is quite high but safe for health. This lead-free tin is recommended for investment and use because it is safe for workers’ health.
Adjust the soldering temperature
Whether solder melts or not depends on the soldering temperature; a low temperature melts poorly, and a high temperature causes circuits to burn or crumble. The appropriate temperature ranges from 240 to 350 degrees Celsius because soldering irons have a melting point of about 200 to 280 degrees Celsius.
Each operation requires holding the solder tip at the foot of the component for about 5–7 seconds. In the process of soldering large solder joints or special components such as ICs, transistors, etc., clamp or apply metal to the foot of the component to help it dissipate heat faster.
Note: clean the contact points to have a beautiful weld, and tighten the screws to help the solder tip transmit electricity well when using a pulse welding machine. Put the solder in the right position to solder, put the tin wire into the position of the solder tip, and then squeeze the switch.
In addition, depending on the type of tin and surface area, the craftsman adjusts the temperature accordingly.
Re-galvanize the tip of the soldering iron before welding
To reduce oxidation after long-term use and increase the life of the tool before and after use, it is necessary to re-galvanize the soldering iron tip. The plating method is to use a small blade to scrape the solder tip, then heat the solder tip and dip the solder tip into the solder flux. Then put the tin in so that the tin is evenly coated on the soldering iron face, about 5mm.
Hopefully, the above experiences will help your soldering of electronic components achieve quality and value, as well as increase productivity and efficiency in the working process.
